I have heard it as a girl's name, and would love to know its meaning and origin. Any help would be great!
Can anyone tell me the meaning of the first name Kien?
There are 2 girls names that are very similar to "your" Kien.
The first being "Kienalle" which is of American origin, meaning "light"
The second being "Kienna" No origin found for this one but apparently means "brash"

Reply:A very quick search shows no real origin or meaning to the name. It seems to be part of a last name, also as a name that showed up in a census in Australia.

Reply:Kian is actually a boy's name. There are several histories of it (it has been used in several cultures and likely has several meanings). Here's a link to the Welsh version.

My ex-bf in high school had the name Kian (not Kien) for a middle name. His family was from Northern England, so my guess is that it is still used.

How much does it cost to change your first name?
I know where to get the forms, but no one can tell me the cost. I live in the state of WA.

It is not exactly free. You have to have to obtain copies of your criminal background check which cost about $30 each. I think you have to get one from the feds and one from your state. I think there was a filing fee also. I did this several years ago and it seems like I spent about $100. In my state you are also required to post a notice in the newspaper that runs for a minimum of three days stating that you (listing old name) will now be known as (new name) and that was about $20. If you check with the clerk at your county government office, they can tell you the procedures and costs. By the way - it takes about two months start to finish.

Once you get all those filed and the change is made permanent you take the court forms to social security to get a new card (free) and the license office for a new drivers license (it will cost you a new $40 for it) You cannot change your birth certificate though, that stays the same no matter what

You are not legally required to change your family name (surname). If you want to you can:
a) use your spouse's family name upon marriage,
b) combine family names with your spouse,
c) return to your family name at birth or after adoption after getting divorced or separated,
d) use a former married name,
e) return to a previous legal name that has been formally registered.
You do not need to register a formal change of name if the change falls within one of the above categories. Your marriage certificate is sufficient proof of your change of name and there may be times when you will also need to produce your birth certificate as proof.
Married couples and their children under 18 years of age may apply on one form.
