Can I call the hospital to see if someone is admitted there with only their first name and birth date?

I'm unsure if a friend of mine is in the hospital and I only know the first name and birth date. Is it still possible to get information from the hospital?

how do you know their birth date but not their last name?
Reply:no must have, last forst name most hos[pitals enter there informationn on a data base which is fed threw too the switchboard, and if you have lets say too joes-- lyying-- besides each other in the same room you would have a entire mess!
Reply:They are NOT going to tell you whether or not person x is at the hospital at this time. YOU are not entitled to that information, as you are not direct family.

Reply:no you cant call hospital as your not a close family member and you would need full name and address anyway i doubt they would give you any information over phone as its against medical law to give out information to people unless their relative of the patient concerned .

Reply:Well I know everyone else is saying no but when I was in the hospital giving birth to my daughter I forgot to tell my best friend what hospital I was going to, and she found out with just my name over the phone!
Reply:Well, the privacy laws are pretty strict, but you should be able to see if they are there. The hospitals are allowed to tell anyone that they are a patient there and where they are in the hospital, but they cannot tell you anything about their condition. Chances are if you can get a last name it would be a LOT easier, but try to find a really nice person to ask at information or ER regestration and they should be able to help.
