My airline ticket has my middle name not first name, can I board?

I have been using my middle name for many years, in my email, amongst friends, professionally but my I've never changed it officially. I didn't realise but my travel agent booked my ticket - middle name, surname.

On my passport both names are listed.

It is expensive to do the name change and i can't get on the same flight as my partner (24 hours - London - Australia) but I'm very worried that I won't be permitted to board.

I recently had a similar experience and didn't have a problem. if your passport has both names, you shouldn't either. you may, however want to check with the airline.
Reply:If both names are listed on your passport, you should be OK. However, I submit that when you book your flights that you use the name on your passport, and when you receive your tickets from your travel agent that you immediately look at them and verify that they are correct.

If you want to use your middle name, have your tickets make out to J. Kathleen Smith or J. K. Smith instead of just Kathleen Smith. OK? It is the TSA check point that is where the difference matters. If your checking account is J. Kathleen Smith, take it and show it to the TSA guy. It is not uncommon for people to use their middle names.

Dan
