How do I legally change my first name?
Usually what you would have to do is go to the court house and file a petition for name change. Then you will have to put a notice in your local paper announcing the name change so that would give creditors, etc. an opportunity to request a default on the name change (in case someone is changing their name to get out of financial responsibility - usually this is for last names, but you will probably be required to do the same thing). After that you will more than likely have a court date that will more than likely grant the change.

Don't forget that you will have to have your birth certificate changed (usually through your states department of vital statistics) as well as inform the Social Security Administration.

Good luck!
Reply:go to the court house!
Reply:if you are over 18, go to your local courthouse and fill out a form requesting a name change. You don't have to get a lawyer. They should give you a court date, and presto, chango...
Reply:You go to the government center where you live and pay a fee and then they wil tell you what to do from there. Why would you want to change your name anyway%26gt;?
