How do I find an obituary from 1978 with just a first name and date?

I know her first name and the exact date of death but am unsure of where in the US it was or her last name.

How do I find an obituary from 1978 with just a first name and date?
You are going to have a hard time finding this person if you do not know her last name or where she died.

If you knew where she died, you may be able to try the newspaper from the town where she died. These papers will be on microfilm, and probably not on the Internet. There are about 10 days worth of newspapers on each reel. You may need to talk to a librarian or a staff member at a public library in or near the town of where this person died.

The staff usually does not have time to go through reels and reels of microfilm looking for what appears to be a needle in a haystack.

Is there a way you can find out this person's last name? This will make your search a lot easier.

You can go to Legacy. com. You may have to pay for the search. (This will help find the obituary).

If you know the SS#, you can find her through the death records on ssa.gov.

It will be a challenge, that's for sure.
Reply:Without a last name, it would be like a needle in a haystack.

You got to come up with a last name. You got a pic of the

person? Sounds like you need Sherlock Holmes on this one.
Reply:why do you want to know? go outside and play. leave the dead alone
Reply:Church records are a possible if you know the denomination, newspapers if it is recent enough, this link might help
Reply:findagrave.com. they have everyone.
Reply:You might try a Library. They have lists of Census there. Might be hard to find by the Census without a last name. If you knew the town, a newspaper might be able to help you.
Reply:Roots.com or Social Sercurty death records.com
