How do you pronounce Norwegian author Knut Hamsun's first name?

I did an Internet search and people keep saying it's a German or Danish name. Not sure if the pronunciation would be the same. Does anyone know how it would be pronounced in Norway? Thanks!

Reply:The boy's name Knut \kn-nut\ is a variant of Canute and Knute.

The 'k' sound is dropped in most non-nordic/non-germanic

countries and would be pronounced like the word knight.

The 'u' is a long vowel. Sounds like 'ooh'.

Scandanavian and German speaking countries generally

pronounce the 'k' and it would be said Ka-noot.
