How can a person legally change their first name?

I wanna change my first name.I hate the name I have.Does anyone know how to do this?

How can a person legally change their first name?
You didn't say what country you live in, and , if you live in the USA, you did not say the state you live in.

Each country and each state in the USA has their own laws and rules for name change. In British and Commonwealth countries, it is done by what is called a deed poll. You can simply file a document changing your name (either your whole name, or just your first name.

In the United States, each state has a procedure for change of name. It can usually be done with a simple petition to the court (each state calls this court by a different name--superior court, or chancery court, or family court, etc. ) and a 3 minute hearing, and a court order is issued, allowing the name change. Bear in mind, if you LEGALLY change your name, you will have to change all your other documents--driver's license, voting registration, property title sometimes, and your Social Security records, IRS tax records, and your US Passport.

IF you want to UNOFFICIALLY change your name, you can just call yourself by a different first name as a NICKNAME, except on legal documents. You don't have to go to any procedure to do it. Dwight D. Eisenhower just called himself "Ike",John F. Kennedy and his family and friends and constituents called him "Jack"; President William Jefferson Clinton (yes, that is his real legal name), just called himself Bill Clinton. And James Earl Carter, Jr. just called himself "Jimmy". First lady Mrs. Lyndon Johnson had an official first name of Claudia, but for her whole adult life, called herself "Lady Bird".
Reply:call a court house but make sure u have no warrents lol
Reply:In my country, Aoteraroa, we change our names by deed poll, you make a submissin to the Department of Internal Affairs, pay them some money and they change your legal name. Around here the Department of Internal Affairs is the same lot who do your passports, birthcertificates, death certificates etc.

I suggest you go ask your equivallent government department
Reply:I know you are able to, but I don't know how. I think it is just called a name change and you have to fill out some papers.
Reply:It is called a "Deed Poll" document. Ask at Your local Court about obtaining one. Basically it is a contract You make with Yourself to change Your name. It is very simple and cheap.
