Is it legal to have just the first name and have no last name?

Application errors out, hence wondering if it is legal to have just the first name and have no last name?

Is it legal to have just the first name and have no last name?
Yes. Take Cher and Madonna for example.
Reply:Ordinarily, a judge has legal discretion to grant or deny a name change for frivolous or immoral purposes. That said, the Minnesota Supreme Court allowed a petitioner to change his name to "1069" but ruled that "Ten Sixty-Nine" might be acceptable.

Of course, as a practical matter, I don't know how "1069" or for that matter "The Artist Formerly Known As Prince" can cope with computerized forms.
Reply:A little more detail to what your asking......You have to have a first name AND a last name. How many John's, Leo's, Crystal's, are there in the world...a lot. Thats why First names and Last are needing in common society.
Reply:It is indeed legal, for example, a famous music artist named Prince changed his name (legally) to a symbol.
