I think her campaign started that to differentiate her from her husband. When her election site first when up, the tag at the top of the page just said Hillary.
Personally, I always refer to her as Senator Clinton. Even tho she wouldn't get my vote, I feel she still deserves the respect of her position, just as President Bush, who I don't care much about either.
Why is Hillary Clinton the only candidate referred to by first name only?
Probably because her husband was a President and often the media talks about them at the same time frequently. Plus, when Bill was President, they didn't call her "the First Lady" all of the time, they called her Hillary. I think the media just got used to calling her Hillary and it stuck. I'm sure she doesn't mind, as being on a first name basis with the voters could be a big help.

EDIT Why single me out? I am f'ing tired of this s*it. I didn't expect it from you, Amy. I'm outta here.
Reply:I used to wonder the same thing about Saddam Hussien, who always seemed to be referred to in the news on friendly first name terms. I think in his case 'Saddam' had a ring in line with his image, and calling Clinton Hilary differentiates her from her husband.
Reply:Same way that Obama is used without the Barrack (or the Hussein) for the most part.. what's in a name? They're thinking they're manipulating you/me by reacting to a brand-name... firstly, one-word names usually mean FAME and instant-recognition to us (Cher, Britney, Bono, Celine, Barbra, Elvis, etc.) and that's what they set out to do.. in reality, she should be referred to as First Lady (but doesn't want that!) or Sen. Clinton, but wants the more folksy, less formal Hillary. In this way, she lessens the Clinton connection (and people are tired of Bush, Clinton, Bush Bush, Clinton?)... listen, political strategists believe that people are MORONs and would detach her from HIM.. and after her tearing-up act and how it played in New Hampshire.. they might be right!!!
Exclusion of details, changes the meaning. Highlighting what puts them in a better light... (What else do politicians do... because I can't find 1 thing either she or Obama ever did... for anyone.. and there they are.)
Reply:Why does SHE print her first name on ALL of her campaign literature, buttons, signs, etc....
I think it's HER that has brought it to the forefront to be more personable...it's a ploy....are you THAT naive???
Reply:Hillary is synonymous with terms like the plague, or disaster,
You don't need any other names words or structure to describe her.
Reply:Because that is what she started refering to herself as back in her senate campaign in order to differentiate herself from bill clinton.
Reply:If I remember correctly she is the one that started that. And it was more then likely to make it sound like it is a new start, and not for bill.
Reply:Actually, early on, Hillary made a point to run on her first name, as, to differentiate herself from the president.
Reply:Has a better ring to it and her husband wore the "Clinton" moniker out. John (Edwards or McCain) sounds like someone sneaking around with a hooker. Barack sounds too, well, Muslim. Romney is called Mit by most of people I've heard on TV. Fred Thompson is usually referred to by both of his names. Ron Paul is referred to as "that nut from Texas." They like calling Huckabee by his last name because it invokes images of a canine cartoon character.
Reply:HEIL HILLARY!
Reply:Because she's such a friendly likeable and approachable person silly!!
Reply:She's the only one with breasts that's why.
Reply:Because saying her last name makes people think of her husband. She wants to distance herself from him because he hurts her chances of winning the general election. Bill was not a good president and educated people know this. The left wing libs love Bill, but not the general public. Look at the numbers. In 1992 he only won with 43% and in 96 with only 49%.
Clinton = Bad memories.
Reply:Because libs are like little school children. You know how Clinton may be hard for some to pronounce so instead you can call her Mrs. Hillary.
I was reading your other questions and you are not asking any questions that you don't already have a pointed opinion about, every time you give an answer your reposne it is something like "that's exactly how I feel". Get over yourself, you aren't here trying to gain insight, you are trying to bash those that disagree with you.
Reply:Her choice. All of her campaign stuff is printed 'Hillery'. I suppose she thinks it is informal and friendly.
