How old must you be to change your first name in Ontario?

Ugh, I hate my name. How old must I be to legally change it?

How old must you be to change your first name in Ontario?
To do it yourself, you need to be 18. Your parents can do it for you any time.

On the other hand, just start asking people to use a different name. My sister did that years ago, she didn't like the name Teresa, so started using Terry in Grade 5 or 6. To this day, (35 yrs later) the only people who use her proper name are her family.

How do you like your middle name? You could use that.

One bit of warning: do NOT use an assumed name on any kind of ID. That can get horribly confusing in later years and can cause all sorts of delays and complications. Once it is legally changed, fine, but if you just want to USE a different name, keep it off anything official.
Reply:You can call yourself anything you want without having to legally change it, unless it is done to defraud.
