I have a 2 1/2 month old son named Carter. While we like the name Carter, both of us really wish we would have named him Spencer. We've heard you can do this without going to court before he is 6 months, but I don't know how to go about doing it. Does anyone know what we need to do?
How can I legally change my 2 month old son's first name?
yes you need to go to the social security office and get a form and fill it out...but they do ask you for a reason why and then you need to go to the town office wear your son was born and haven them file a new birth certificate
Reply:if the birth certificate is already signed u need to go to court
Reply:I think you have to go to court and pay something to get his name changed.
Call your local courthouse they should tell you more.
Reply:Contact the town or village hall where your son was born. Tell them there was an error on the birth certificate that you need to correct. They should give you a form to complete and get notarized. Return the form to the hall and they will submit it to be fixed. It usually takes 6 to 8 weeks. You can only do this once (for free without going to family court)
Reply:just go to the town hall -they will have the correct paper work and procedure to do a name change
Reply:If you haven't sent off for his birth certificate yet you can just write whatever name you want on there and get it that way. Otherwise, I have no clue. You could just call him Spencer as a nickname and let him keep Carter.
Reply:Why don't you just keep his name Carter and maybe if you have another boy sometime call him Spencer... I wouldn't change my babies name unless there was an error on the birth certificate.
